About Me

Welcome to my gallery!

I’m Kayla Shirin Menendez, an Iranian-Argentinean from Aspen, Colorado and currently an Obstetrics and Gynecology resident at the University of Colorado. Shaped by the mountain landscape of my hometown and by growing up as the daughter of an architect and an interior designer, I developed an early devotion to studio art. At Colgate University, I pursued arts and humanities, studying studio art alongside majors in Psychology and English Literature—training that continues to shape how I observe, interpret, and communicate.

Although I ultimately chose a career in medicine, my commitment to creativity has remained central to my work as a surgeon and clinician.

My work centers on the human figure, informed by daily clinical experience and an enduring interest in the body as both structure and story—the architecture of anatomy and the lived experience within it. This site is a collection of that ongoing practice.

I work primarily in charcoal and graphite for the tactile range and expressive versatility, using line and shadow to capture gesture, form, and presence.
